Why it's hard living righteously

So many times have I heard people say “I can’t become a Christian as I am a sinner. I drink and will have to stop in order to be a good Christian – I am just not prepared to sacrifice.” I myself have said similar things in the past.

Recently I switched on Trinity Broadcast Network on DSTV and a preacher made a funny comment as I sat down, so I decided to watch it.

The sermon was about Law and the Grace of God and the message was liberating.

During the times of the Old Testament, God was a punishing God. He gave Moses the Laws for the people to obey and those who did not obey, experienced God’s wrath.

When God sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins, He gave us grace. He sent the Holy Spirit as an intercessor between God and us. To be a “good Christian” all we have to do is walk with the Holy Spirit and obey the one commandment: Loving God with all our heart, mind and soul and loving our neighbours as ourselves.

When we obey this law, we would be under the Grace of God and we wouldn’t easily commit sins. Even when we do commit sins in moment of weakness, we will not become habitual sinners and it will be much easier to repent.
